The Architecture Triennial 2027 – Time Horizons
The Architecture Triennial was initiated in the fall of 2024 by Färgfabriken as an international platform for architecture. Every three years, it provides space for contemporary issues in architecture, in exhibitions and an extensive program, and serves as a gathering point for meetings and conversations about our contemporary and future living environments.
Architecture as an art form and practice has an important role in how we create a sustainable society. The Architecture Triennial therefore wants to be a forum where both professionals and the public can delve into the possibilities and challenges of architecture, from theoretical issues to designs, from participatory work processes to architectural installations, from the aesthetic and practical values of materials to questions about shared resources.
Time Horizons
The theme for the 2027 Architecture Triennial is Time Horizons. It explores how time is constructed, renegotiated, and takes shape in the built environment. What does time mean from the perspective of architecture’s horizons and
how is time materialized when it transitions into architecture? How slowly should architecture move in relation to an ever-growing and demanding societal development? And how quickly can architecture act in an era when destruction escalates, whether through demolition or war?
Which long-term and short-term horizons must architecture consider in the transformation of our living environments towards a sustainable future? Perspectives that could range from the time scales of geology to the life cycle of a building.
Time Horizons should be seen as a rebellion against the “present” and a call for a future where architecture has a given role as a factor of change.
