True – An evening of culture created by young people

10 December 2024

Main hall

18.00 – 21.00

Free admission

In a dynamic cultural evening, young artists aged 17 to 20 delve into the complexities of contemporary existence, exploring themes such as existential crises, meaninglessness, and climate anxiety. They challenge a reality perceived as absurd and incomprehensible, offering instead a more spontaneous, authentic, and emotionally driven perspective through art, inviting us to break free from conventional thinking and overanalysis.

Across approximately 20 works, these themes are brought to life through a variety of installations, images, sculptures, photographs, films, sound, fashion, and other artistic mediums. The evening also features performances, poetry readings, and a balalaika orchestra, enriching the experience and creating a multifaceted exploration of hopelessness and resilience through evocative, norm-defying art, created and curated by young people.

Artists:

Elsa Arrhenius

Elsa Arrhenius studies sculpture at Idun Lovén Art School. She explores play as a creative process, from concept to creation, placing curiosity and experimentation at the heart of her artistic practice. By challenging materials and forms, Elsa creates works that combine spontaneity with thoughtful intent. She will present a newly produced film.

Project Bassängen was born out of the need for an artistic space and a gathering place for young, emerging artists. Since 2023, the art collective has conducted various workshops and organized exhibitions and performances across Stockholm, including at Bio Café Tellus, Galleri Stjärna in Gröndal, and Jakobsbergs Gård in Bredäng. The name “Bassängen” (The Pool) originates from their early days, when the group used a decommissioned pool in Huddinge as their studio space. Initially, Bassängen consisted of a small group of young creatives searching for a communal space, but the group has since grown to include 20 members aged 17 to 20. Although its members are spread across Stockholm, the collective holds regular meetings at a venue in Odenplan.
