The El Sur exhibition is coming to an end, but the need to keep our compasses pointing south remains. That’s why we invite Paulina de los Reyes, Macarena Dusant and Paloma Madrid to share critical thinking and experiences related to their journey in the South, to the Torres del Paine National Park and Lake Nordenskjöld. It is a lake landscape in Arctic Chile and was named after the Swedish polar explorer Otto Nordenskjöld during the Swedish scientific expedition in the late 19th century. The common goal of Paulina’s, Macarena’s and Paloma’s journey was to gain an understanding of the historical context of the lake’s naming and the motive behind it. An important aspect of this was to gain a deeper insight into the relations between the local elites in Chile at the time and Otto Nordenskjöld’s scientific expedition.
