Exhibition

A portrait of one of the most misunderstood subcultures

Färgfabriken and VICE proudly present the photo exhibition Skins by Gavin Watson. When Watson was 13 years old he got his hands on a Nikon FM2 and started taking pictures of his brothers and friends mucking about. These photos later tunred into a book called Skins, which arguably is one of the best and most important books about youth fashion and culture ever published. The black and white shots offer a fascinating glimpse into a skinhead community that was multi-cultural, tightly knit and above all else, fiercly proud of their look.

The British youth culture has rediscovered the book via acclaimed films such as 2007`award winning This is England. Director Shane Meadows talks dearly about the book and many characters in the film are based on Watsons Skins.

After Stockholm the exhibition will travel to Helsinki (16th-30th October) and Copenhagen (TBA).

The book Skins is distributed in Scandinavia by Dokument Förlag and by IMP internationally.
