Albin Karlsson Beckers Art Award 2005

The 19th Beckers Art Award – a grant of 150,000 SEK – will this year be awarded to Albin Karlsson.

Albin Karlsson works like an old fashioned clockmaker, with precise technical solutions. Never settled with technique though, but adding poetic warmth that reveals a human aspect, equal amount of humor as sad seriousness. Everything he does evolves around time and its calm but irrevocable way – told to us by a fax paper that is slowly heated and filled, stearin that drips or domino blocks that falls. Albin Karlsson is rewarded with the Beckers Art Award 2005 because he is a peculiar time poet who through his technical constructions makes us see a human side in time’s tragicomic implacability.

Beckers Art Award was established in 1987 and has since then proven to have a remarkable ability to identify young talents on the brink of a breakthrough in their careers. The winner is awarded a grant, which from this year has been raised from 150,000 to 200,000 SEK, and a solo exhibition that has, since 2001, been arranged and held in collaboration with Färgfabriken.
