AES on site to investigate different configurations and prototypes of brick as a relational building material

Seminar at Färgfabriken where the experiences from the project ‘AES moves in’ are discussed for the public.
Färgfabriken has invited the architecture network AES to Open studio, where various creators regluarly are asked to take over the project rooms to let an audience meet the creative process when it is still in motion.
Through their work, AES seeks to expand the role of architecture through site-creating methods and participatory processes in a movement towards a more sustainable future.
AES describes the “Move in method” itself
“We are moving into Färgfabriken with the goal of using Lövholmen’s social and material resources to investigate possible tools, construction methods and skills that an architect needs to bring with them to develop a project together with what is already in place.
We also do this in the belief that if you place an architectural process in the middle of one of the city’s everyday environments, more people can be inspired and included in shaping our built environment. “
About AES
Architectural Environmental Strategies (AES) is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. They work with practical exploration methods in the broad field of architecture and view it as an experimental workshop run by curious exploration and idea-driven construction.
In recent years, AES has collaborated in the European research network Building Impact Zero Network (BiOn), which focuses on sustainable construction. Through the network, various participatory processes and environmentally friendly construction techniques have been investigated and staged. This has resulted in smaller construction projects in several places around Europe.
All projects are based on unique conditions, but with similarity in method.
The practical research work in BiOn ranges from 2015-2022 and in 2019 the network was awarded the “best practice award for adult learning” by ERASMUS +, which financed the development.
AES has both participated and led the development in BiOn, among other things through a project where we built a store with cordwood together with the social company Eko Odlarna, in Östertälje. For 4 weeks, the store planned, designed and built directly on site, together with the Eko Odlarna, where many of the participants lacked previous experience of both drawing and building. In the project, AES also worked with the site’s material resources and built with recycled and natural materials that were collected from the surroundings.

Färgfabriken’s ongoing project Open Studio was launched 2017 in collaboration with the art and design group Very Very Gold. Open studio is a way of giving exposure to creative thinking and creative processes before they adopt their final form, while also bringing creators and audiences closer together.
