Emma Simonsson
Emma Simonsson is a landscape architect educated at SLU Alnarp and the ETSAM School of Architecture in Madrid. Since 2012, she has been working at Urbio as a designing and project-managing landscape architect in various types of projects, often focusing on designing natural-like environments in an urban context.
Emma previously worked in Spain for six years at the office of Burgos y Garrido arquitectos. There, she worked on the large urban park Madrid Río, from planning to construction.
About Plouotopes
In recent years, Emma Simonsson’s focus has been on environments for play, working in practice-oriented research projects with the implementation of “playotopes,” natural-like play landscapes with a focus on high playability and experience value. The goal has been to find alternatives to the conventional playground, which is often open, paved, and one-dimensional, and to show the possibility of designing play environments with more diversity where children can have greater opportunities for challenges and experiences. Together with Örebro Municipality, the ideas from the “playotopes” work have been tested in large scale in Hjälmarviksparken, where a big part of the natural-like environment is site-built by the municipality.
