Emma Simonsson will talk about her work on practice-based research projects implementing “Lekotoper,” naturalistic play landscapes with a strong emphasis on high play and experience value. The goal of these projects has been to find alternatives to conventional playgrounds, which are often open, paved, and one-dimensional, and to demonstrate the potential for designing play environments with greater diversity, offering children more opportunities for challenges and experiences.
In collaboration with Örebro Municipality, the ideas from the Lekotop work have been tested on a real scale in Hjälmarviksparken, where a significant part of the naturalistic environment has been custom-built under the municipality’s direction.
