Welcome to a conversation with Oleksandra Pogrebnyak, curator at PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine.

In her practice, Oleksandra focuses on the current and emerging generations of artists from Ukraine and around the world. Through intimate, sensory and deeply personal perspectives, she explores shared historical and political experiences. Her curatorial practice is characterised by a strong sensitivity to the ways in which art can create space for reflection, resilience and new ways of understanding our present moment.

In recent years, she has curated a number of acclaimed exhibitions in Ukraine and internationally, including United (2022), featuring artists nominated for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2022, co-curated with Ksenia Malykh; How River Roars (2023) at Krupa Art Foundation in Poland; Dare to Dream (2024), presented as an official collateral event of the 60th Venice Biennale and co-curated with Björn Geldhof and Ksenia Malykh; and the current exhibition Still Joy (2026), co-curated with Björn Geldhof and presented as an official collateral event of the 61st Venice Biennale. Since 2023, she has also initiated a unique series of exhibitions in her own apartment in Kyiv, with each exhibition coinciding with her birthday and the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In the conversation, Oleksandra will share insights from her experience as a curator working in a time marked by war and upheaval, discuss the role of art in society, and offer a glimpse into the processes that shape her curatorial practice.
