Christian Partos Beckers Art Award 2001

15 December 2001 13 January 2002

Scholarship exhibition
Main hall, Färgfabriken

The 16th Beckers Art Award – a grant of 150,000 SEK – will be awarded to Christian Partos. He is born in 1958 and has been trained at Konstfack’s sculpture program in Stockholm.

Christian Partos is an artist who doesn’t shy away from big feelings, from heartache and pain. Partos objects and installations are often grand, inconceivably technical and theatrical, but they always display a poetic, not to say sacred, quality of restraint.

As few others the loner Christian Partos has an ability to offer glimpses of an astounding world, and he is given Beckers’s scholarship for his way of seemingly without difficulties, in ingenious constructions, transcending both the physical room and the concept of habit.

Beckers Art Award was established in 1987 and has since then proven to have a remarkable ability to identify young talents on the brink of a breakthrough in their careers. The winner is awarded a grant, which from this year has been raised from 150,000 to 200,000 SEK, and a solo exhibition that has, since 2001, been arranged and held in collaboration with Färgfabriken.
