Welcome to the film screening and launch of the House Europe campaign!
ACAN Sweden is a partner in the citizen-driven initiative House Europe! initiative, which aims to change EU legislation to discourage building demolition and facilitate renovation.
To launch the campaign in Sweden, we invite you to a screening of the film The Demolition Drama and a subsequent discussion moderated by Veronica Hejdelind with invited guests.
Welcome from 17.30. The screening will start at 18:00 followed by a discussion and mingle from 19:00.
More about House Europe!
The proposal aims to counteract the demolition of buildings by creating incentives for renovation – such as reduced VAT, EU financial support and specific climate targets for the construction sector.
The main points of the proposal are:
1. Reduced VAT on renovations to create financial incentives.
2. Fair and common European standards for the risk assessment of buildings – to highlight the potential of the existing stock and the opportunities for renovation and transformation instead of demolition.
3. Expanded calculation methods for LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) to take into account the embodied resources of a building, limits to reduce the climate impact of construction and an obligation to monitor them. Link to the EU taxonomy and sector-specific climate targets.
4. Financial support through the EU for renovations and research on the subject.
On 1 February, we start our work to collect signatures across Europe to turn this proposal into EU law! Read more here.
