RIFT

“The way we build needs to reflect our dependence on ecological systems and our responsibility to restore and regenerate them. Our goal is to cultivate a regenerative building culture that values ecological knowledge, fosters resilience, and explores how we can build as part of a living context.”

RIFT (Regenerative Ideas For Tomorrow) is a Nordic collective that explores how architecture and material practices can be regenerative rather than extractive. The collective consists of the architects Julia Andersson, Kine Jæger-Larasse and Nicolai Jæger-Larasse.

Taking the Nordic landscape as its starting point, RIFT investigates the potential of biogenic materials such as straw, hemp, seaweed and mycelium. By exploring the materials’ tactile qualities, origins and roots in the ecologies, agriculture and crafts of a place, RIFT seeks pathways toward a more caring architecture within planetary boundaries.

Through mappings, dialogues and sensory installations, RIFT follows the materials through different stages: from how they are grown and harvested to how they are shaped, used and, eventually, can be returned to the earth.
