Announcement

LINA (Learn, Interact and Network in Architecture) is a European architectural platform coordinated by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and co-funded by the European Commission. The platform’s goal is to strengthen collaboration between emerging professionals and established institutions across Europe, as well as to promote regenerative and sustainable architectural practices in line with the European Green Deal.

Selected from among 79 cultural organisations from across Europe, Färgfabriken received unanimous support among shortlisted candidates. The Governing Board who headed the selection process underlined:

“Färgfabriken is deeply aligned with LINA’s values of sustainability, interdisciplinary, collaboration and mentorship. These values are grounded in Färgfabriken’s 30 years of experience of bringing together art, architecture and urban development.”

The two-tier selection process was first carried out by representatives of full LINA Members, and in its second phase, through interviews with three shortlisted candidates by Governing Board members Josephine Michau, Irhana Šehović, Blaithin Quinn, Elena Falomo and Karin Oberhuber, along with Head of Platform Matevž Čelik. In their report, they further elaborated:

The selection committee further states:

“Färgfabriken’s role as a mediator between art and architecture will expand LINA’s reach to a broader audience, including young people and the general public, thereby reinforcing the platform’s inclusive mission. Their experience in mentoring and engaging with young people, as well as their leading role in initiatives such as the Nordic-Baltic Perspective, demonstrates their capacity to strengthen the LINA network through collaborative and experimental programmes. By involving fellows in projects such as the Architecture Triennial and the transformation of their industrial space, Färgfabriken provides fellows with tangible, long-term opportunities and fosters collaborations among platform members. This strengthens external visibility and builds interdisciplinary connections within the platform, while also facilitating skill development.

Ultimately, Färgfabriken’s visionary yet pragmatic approach, which is grounded in care, experimentation and sustainability, is a perfect fit for LINA. It has the potential to drive transformation and enhance the platform’s ability to achieve its goals. At the same time, Färgfabriken’s involvement represents a significant enrichment of the platform’s cultural and intellectual ecosystem. Their involvement promises to increase LINA’s impact by providing fellows and members with a dynamic and supportive environment for innovation and collaboration.”

The full list of applicants is available in the report document. The shortlisted candidates were Stiftelsen Färgfabriken (Stockholm, Sweden), Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (Rotterdam, Netherlands), and KÉK – Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre (Budapest, Hungary).

The selection process highlighted the high quality and diversity of applications, reflecting the vibrant and dynamic nature of the European architectural and cultural landscape. While all three finalists presented compelling opportunities for LINA, the Governing Board’s decision was guided by a strict adherence to the evaluation criteria and a careful analysis of how each candidate’s proposed contributions would translate into practice.
