Ruangrupa är en samtida konstorganisation som grundades år 2000 av en grupp konstnärer i Jakarta, en ideell organisation för att främja konst i stadsmiljö och arbeta brett med kultur genom utställningar, festivaler, konst, laboratorier, workshops, undersökningar och böcker, tidskrifter, och i onlinepublikationer.
Under 2 månader har tre medlemmar i Ruangrupa Artlab varit i Stockholm på Iaspis-stipendium. Här har de arbetat med att kartlägga och analysera konstscenen, något de också har gjort på flera andra platser i världen.
De har träffat och samtalat med många aktörer i Stockholms konstliv och undersökt hur konsten formar Stockholm på många olika sätt.
”We encountered the several actors and ideas that actively produce the narrative and perspective of art and how it should expand in the future – without forgetting the history when reflecting about today. In a realm that is constantly changing and challenging, they involved to determine the significance of art.
We read the patterns how these actors use art as a tool to understand and engage with the local issues and how it is connected internationally at the same time. Through working with the complexity of contemporary art and its daily context, ruangrupa artlab tries to analyze what is happening in the Stockholm art scene today, looking at how things developed in similar practices, yet turn into contrast to one another. ”

Art Lab, one of the divisions of Ruangrupa, is a program of art projects that conduct researches and creative collaborations on urban and media issues, a space of collaboration for both individual artists and collectives of interdisciplinary fields from inside and outside Indonesia.
