Building blocks Oslo, 2011

Six groups of children from Olso, Bergen, Trondheim and Fredrikstad created social spaces together with architects.

Building Blocks Oslo was arranged by the Foundation for Design and Architecture in Norway (Norsk Form) in a collaboration with Färgfabriken. Six groups of children between the age of 8 and 17 years from Bergen, Fredrikstad, Oslo and Trondheim are grouped together with local architects. There collaboration was exhibited as buildings in the exhibition at DogA 8th October to 27th November 2011.

Building Blocks is a concept developed by Färgfabriken and Medium, based on children’s participations in architecture. The project investigates the accepted roles in the building process, specifically the relationship between architect and client. The idea is based on children, between 5 and 16 years old, as clients and commissioners of architecture. Each child or group of children collaborates with different architects. Each architect’s proposal is built in scale 1:1 and exhibited.

Building Blocks Oslo focused on houses as spaces for social interation and meeting. With respect to their age six groups of childrens were given different cases to focus on as a peagogic tool.
