Program spring 2024

Färgfabriken’s spring program offers strong experiences and work from artists that have not previously been exhibited in Sweden. In the Main Hall, visitors can take part in art that deals with varies of subjects from the most concrete, such as how we perceive a color, to how landscapes and people’s lives are affected by the extraction of resources needed in the green energy transition. During Spring there will also be different activities going on in Färgfabriken´s Open Studio, where the audience can meet artists and creators in the middle of the artistic process. In May, Färgfabriken also hosts a part of Konstfack’s spring exhibition.

In this spring’s major exhibition El Sur – Extractive Narratives, the shadow side of the green energy transition is exposed. Based on themes such as water, oil and lithium, Latin American artists depict the consequences for people, animals and landscapes of the ongoing exploitation of natural resources in countries such as Chile, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico. There will be a rich selection of video, photo, installation and more of outstanding artistry. El Sur opens on April 13 and is displayed until June 16.

The Spring season starts February 3 to March 17, when the 2024 recipient of Becker’s art award Joakim Sandqvist shows both previous and newly produced works. Sandqvist works in a wide selection of media and investigates themes such as the post-industrial world in relation to history and how local conditions are affected by global changes. The material and its history are central to his artistry. It is the first time that most of Sandqvist’s works are shown together.

To Färgfabriken’s Open Studio, Färgfabriken invites artists, architects and other creators to take over one or two project rooms to explore an idea for a period before it takes its final form. During the spring of 2024, Färgfabriken has invited the artists Jenny Berntsson and Jelena Rundqvist (January 15–March 17), who explore play environments and how children can be involved in how they are designed. From 2 April to 12 May, the duo Iconoclasistas from Argentina in (Julia Risler and Pablo Ares) take part of Open Studio in connection with the exhibition El Sur. Spring’s Open Studio then ends with Kibandu Pello-Esso 28 May–20 June, who has a master’s in spatial design from Konstfack. He will include the place Lövholmen in his exploration.

Alongside the exhibitions, Färgfabriken offers a program with lectures, guided tours, artist talks and more. The spring’s entire program activities will be published on January 18.
