Greenhouses and other Social Pedestals

 Artist and architect Luis Berríos-Negrón talks about the greenhouse as a saviour, but also a problem.

During the spring Färgfabriken has organised a number of symposia within the framework of the Connected project and as a preparation for this fall’s big exhibition Experiment Stockholm. We have been investigating the idea of the connected city and how the structures of nature and city can overlap.

As a final symposium we have invited Luis Berríos-Negrón to talk about his work about the broad definition of "greenhouse" as "social pedestal" (Berríos -Negrón, 2013). Luis will give an introduction to his ongoing investigation about the ideas that constitute "greenhouse" as mental and material entity. The "greenhouse" may show us the complexity of the situation. It is hailed as a saviour, but it is also a problem, an index and much more. 

 

Luis Berríos-Negrón was comissioned artist for the 3rd Biennial of Art of Bahia in 2014, represtented Germany in the São Paulo International Biennial of Architecture, and was Danish International Visiting Artist in 2013. In 2012, he exhibited in Paul Ryan's Threeing project at Documenta, and in Ute Meta Bauer's Future Archive at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein. Luis has a bachelor of fine arts from Parsons, a master of architecture from M.I.T., and is doctoral candidate at Konstfack/KTH in 2015. He is currently exhibiting in Lothringer 13 in Munich, and lives in Berlin.
