Stockholm on the Move

Ideas, visions and challenges for a city in transition

Stockholm on the Move

– a holistic approach to the Stockholm region's opportunities and challenges.

Stockholm on the Move is an on-going project that started in 2010 in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Technology and many other stakeholders.

Stockholm on the Move explores and tries new ideas and asks questions about how Stockholm will develop. It's about spotting systems and changing perspectives. What is Stockholm in a local, regional or global context? How do infrastructure, construction interact with the natural environmental and with social and cultural life? What kind of society we are building for future generations?

Stockholm on the Move is a laboratory where many actors can come together in an experimental environment, by means of exhibitions, debates and seminars - in Stockholm and elsewhere in the world.

Stockholm on the Move is a process of constant change. Are you interested? Do you have ideas? Please contact us!

Since the early 2000s Färgfabriken has worked experimentally and transboundary with urban planning, urban development and social issues, locally, regionally and internationally. With Stockholm on the Move Färgfabriken wants to contribute to a wider array of perspectives on community development and infrastructure, and to target a broad audience - everyone from Stockholm - while creating opportunities for experts and policymakers to meet in new ways.

Stockholm on the Move - the way forward:
Right now the focus is on a new exhibition with related program activities opening in September 2015. This will contain inspiration, examples, experiences and vision, exploring issues like:

The Stockholm region is urban, suburban and rural. What synergies can be found in the relationships between these different types of places? How are they interconnected? Which are the dormant assets? What synergies can be found?

We need strategies for creating more flexible cities and infrastructure systems – nobody knows exactly what the future holds.

There is a great need for new forms for citizen dialogue and inclusive planning processes, crossing both municipal and mental borders.

Planning and infrastructure has the potential to break segregation!

Alternative planning processes: Can we plan more quickly and with quality, at the same time as people have more influence?

Can a new approach to the concept of infrastructure create both integration and sustainable growth?

Does increased attractiveness in the Stockholm region have to rely on solutions that are large, expensive and slow?

How can Stockholm be developed in order to serve as inspiration in a global context?

The first exhibition in the context of Stockholm on the Move took place between November 22, 2012 - March 24, 2013 and was accompanied by an extensive program of conferences, seminars and workshops. The exhibition was contained, among other things, an historical overview, international examples, a summary of current and planned infrastructure projects and five different scenarios for the Stockholm region's future. By means of architecture, design, urban planning, film, art and sound the visitors were given the opportunity to experience, react and become involved in the Stockholm region's development.
